Feed Out Tour

Numbers are limited and bookings are preferred.

This is a great opportunity to see the native birds fed by our informative staff. Kiwi may come down to feed.

Tour starts 11am daily. Meet at the reception area in the Information Center before 11am. Staff will greet you, issue a map of the reserve and personally guide you around the aviaries housing Kereru, Kakariki, Kaka, Weka, Kiwi, Morepork, Geckos, Tui, Scaup, Native Waterfowl, Kea, Tuatara, etc., and discuss other birdlife and aspects of the reserve.

Duration: approx 70 minutes. Visitors are free to then walk around the remainder of the reserve at their own pace. Note FNMT pay the difference between STD entry and Feed Out tour ($5.00).

Cost: $20.00 per adult, $8.00 per child.

Tui Package

A good opportunity to see Tuatara and kiwi up close and learn about their unique place in the animal world.

Visitors are welcomed and given a talk by a staff member. The talk covers aspects of Tuatara and Kiwi life cycles and unique features. This is followed by a walk to the eel feeding area and a presentation and feeding by your guide.

This package is available to fit into the groups travel schedule.

Cost: $20.00 per adult, $10.00 per child

Duration: Approx 45 minutes, visitors are then free to “freedom walk” around the bushwalk and reserve.

Limit: Minimum 5 people.

Kaka Package

This package has a focus on a diverse range of native fauna.

Visitors are welcomed and given a talk by a staff member. The talk covers aspects of Tuatara and Kiwi life cycles and unique features. It is a good opportunity to see Tuatara and Kiwi up close followed by a guided tour through the aviaries and feeding of the Kiwi. The tour continues with a walk to the eel feeding area and a presentation and feeding of the eels by your guide.

This package is available to fit into the groups travel schedule.

Cost: $30.00 per adult, $15.00 per child.

Duration: Approx 90 minutes, visitors are then free to “freedom walk” around the bushwalk and reserve.

Tuatara Package

The “Real Kiwi Nature Experience”. The ultimate New Zealand native flora and fauna tour.

Visitors are welcomed and given a talk by a staff member. The talk covers aspects of Tuatara and Kiwi life cycles and unique features. It is a good opportunity to see Tuatara and Kiwi up close, followed by a guided tour through the aviaries and feeding of the kiwi. The tour continues with a walk to the eel feeding area and a presentation and feeding of the eels by your guide. After the eel feeding your guide will take you on a guided tour of the bushwalk pointing out the diversity of the New Zealand bush. Silver fern can be viewed on the walk along with bush and wetland plants.

This package is available to fit into the group travel schedule. A special visitors pack is given to each member of the group.

Limit: Minimum 5 people.

Night Tours

We offer evening entertainment along with learning. We can provide torch light night tours around Nga Manu Nature Reserve. Tours can be a mix of fun and learning. Ideal for groups on school camps and other groups looking for something different. Explore the night actives of the New Zealand bush. Theme nights can be organised around occasions like Halloween etc, (p.o.a).

Cost: $12.00 per adult, $10.00 per child.
Duration: Approx 120 minutes.
Limit: Minimum 12 people - Bookings required

Ranger for the Day

This ultimate way to spend a day. Staff will take you under their wing and involve you in the day-to-day activities of their job. Get to meet the Kea, Kaka, Kereru etc and feed the Kiwi, checkout the Tuatara.

Help prepare their food and feed the birds. Parents or Grandparents can purchase a gift voucher or book that special person in for "Ranger for the Day". Great for the kids over the school holiday period or weekends as something special. Bookings required.

Cost: $55.00 per per child (8-15 years)
Duration: 9am to 3pm.
Limit: Maximum 2 people per day.

Individual Eel Feeding

Experience the pull of an eel on that meaty morsel. You can hire a feeding pole and strip of meat and feed the eels under the guidance of an experienced eel feeder. A close encounters experience.

Cost: $1.00 per meat strip plus feeding pole.
Time: 2pm daily eel feed or by group arrangement.

School Education Groups

For non commercial, non adult up to secondary school level.

School groups, girl guides, holiday programs, etc. not English languages or foreign students here on exchange programs.

Meet and greet by staff, plus a talk on a subject of their choice. Sole use of area is set aside, e.g. group area, access to website free study sheets, access to Nga Manu images and use of images, eel feeding at 2pm.

Cost: *$4.00 per child.
No charge for teacher and parent help with 1:5 ratios. Numbers over 1:5 ratio normal entry charge applies to those over the ratio. Education groups are subsidised by Nga Manu Trust.

Limit: Minimum 10 people - Bookings preferred.

*If eel feeding is required other then the 2pm feeding, then this can be arranged for an extra $1.00 per student, this covers staff time. Duck food is available at $2.00 per bag.

Regular Groups

For Army, Polytecs/English language groups, etc.

This package is the same content as per Tui package. It is available to those groups that visit on a regular basis and want the Tuatara, Kiwi, eels and duck feeding experience.

Cost: $16.00 per person - no charge for teaching staff.

Duration: Approx 45 minutes, visitors are then free to “freedom walk” around the bushwalk and reserve.

Limit: Minimum 5 people.

IHC - Rest Homes - Disabled Groups, etc.

As per standard entry but at a subsidised price.
Cost: Adult $10.00, Child $5.00.

BBQ Hire

Cost: $5.00 plus 50 cents per head.

FNMT

Provides members with free standard access to the reserve during opening hours. Two newsletters per year. Opportunity to attend special events and functions.

Opportunity to provide support and suggestions toward the reserves operation. Standard entry prices discount on all value added products. One yearly renewable membership.

Cost: Family: $85.00 Adult: $40.00 Child: $20.00

Weddings, Birthday parties and Special Functions

As these are special days and often have special requests we like to talk to you directly on your requirements and work out a special pricing to match the occasion. WE have indoor and outdoor facilities for hire. Catering, if required, would be offered as an extra to any of the above at cost plus. Please feel free to contact us.
